DOIN' IT
Grace Cox
I'm driving down the highway and every car I pass
Has an "I'd Rather Be" sticker on its ass,
Rather be sailing swimming flying, I'd rather be milking
cows,
I'd rather be doing anything than what I'm doing now,
So I said to myself, Self what is the matter?
What's keeping all these people from doing what they'd
rather,
It's the chase for the dollar, the drive for success
That's keeping folks content with such unhappiness
They ought to be doin' it, doin' as they please,
Trusting their own judgement is the key to liberty.
I turn on my tv and some guy says to me,
"If you want salvation you must live in misery"
Keep my nose to the grindstone and believe on some lord,
Wait till I'm dead to reap my life's reward.
Well they say they're not perfect but they forgive
themselves,
It's ther est of us sinners who are going straight to hell.
It seems to me the major salvation that I need
Is saving from their pious self-righteousness and greed.
I'm gonna be doin' it, doin' as I please,
Trusting my own judgement is the key to liberty.
There's trouble aplenty in the land of the free,
Government keeps trying to legislate morality.
With their hands in our pockets and a lock on our minds,
They're always trying to make us toe that straight and
narrow line.
Doesn't matter what you call it, making love or sodomy,
Family planning or abortion, bootleg gin or PCP,
The trouble that we're facing as we struggle to be free
Is that freedom is in jail, but we've all got our own key!
We gotta be doin' it, doin' as we please,
Trusting our own judgement is the key to liberty.
