"Totally
groovin' anarcoustic music. Fun, folksy, fresh, family style folk music, mixing
humor and in-your-face politics. These folks have been stirring up trouble for
years and I am mighty glad to have them on our side!"
Sounds Celebrating Resistance
"A cross between the San Francisco Mime Troupe and Manhattan
Transfer"
Jim Hobsen, University of New
Mexico Speakers Committee.
Together since 1984, Citizens Band formed to prove that good
people making good music could create laughter, inspiration and social
commentary all at the same time. Their commitment to social change, both
individually and as a group, is rooted in the belief that each of us is vital
to creating a better world. Honesty, humor, and understanding flourish in that
better world. But a Citizens Band show is far from a stuffy political diatribe.
Inspired by such wordsmiths as Jim Page and such humorous musical acts as the
Austin Lounge Lizards, the music of Citizens Band, anarcoustic music, is varied
and topical. Playing folk, blues, swing, almost rock or a little bit country,
Citizens Band conveys their beliefs with passion, audacity and harmony.
With original songs like Greenhouse Effect, Fat Girls, The
Day Billy Boy Got Pied, and Yuppie National Anthem, they sing about work,
earth, politics, and strong individuals who make a difference in the world.
From slow and sweet to fast and raucous, Citizens Band songs will provoke your
mind, sway your heart and tickle the soles of your feet.
The four members of Citizens Band play many different instruments including guitar,
flute, double bass, fiddle, harmonica, drums, and accordion. All CB'ers sing
and close four-part harmony is frequent in their sets. Citizens Band is often
outrageous, always entertaining. Whatever else happens to the audience at a
Citizens Band performance, they learn a little and laugh a lot.
GRACE COX learned a lot about anarchy from her two-tone
purple sheetmetal stand-up bass, whose individuality inspired the Citizens Band
color scheme. Singing is a survival mechanism for Grace, and she sings with
intensity and fervor. Satirist Renegade Cafe characterized Grace thusly,
"She's a sucker for aesthetics, but no slave to symmetry.
Affectionately nicknamed "Sweet", HARRY LEVINE
brings to Citizens Band an ecstatic energy for music and a passion for
politics. A confirmed multi-instrumentalist, Harry fiddles with guitar, bass,
mandolin and vocals.
ELIZA WELCH is a crazy fiddle player from Kentucky and
that's not all. She sings, plays mandolin, and plays trap set.
JIM CUBBAGE's talents were first noted on a first grade report
card, "Jim has a sweet singing voice." This early critical acclaim
hurled Jim into a career in environmental science. When he discovered that data
don't usually sway governments, Jim polished his flute and restrung the guitar
and joined Citizens Band.
